Toyota 1989 4runner 22r what other engines can be exchanged into this?

I would like to change the engine to a newer toyota V6 engine if possible.|||You can put practically anything in it...it's just a matter of how difficult it will be.

I suppose you're looking for more power. An easy swap would be a performance-tuned 22RE from DOA racing or LC Engineering. They have v-6 power from the 4-cylinder so it's a direct swap (haha--so you only need 1 handle of Crown).

The 3.0 Toyota v-6 probably isn't worth the effort. It's much heavier, doesn't produce that much more power, uses quite a bit more fuel and isn't as reliable.

If you want to go more complicated, the engines I've seen in Toyotas include the Toyota 3.4, the Buick 3.8, GM 4.3 (a common one), GM 283 (supercharged), and Ford 302. And I'm sure that's just a start to the list.

Check with Advance Adapters...they have everything you need to swap different engines in.

Don't go into this too lightly. It's a ton of work. Unless you pay someone else to do it. Then it's a ton of money.|||There is a 3.0 liter V6 that came optional with that vehicle. Switching over will be expensive, you might just want to sell yours and buy one with the 6 cylinder already in it unless you can find one that's been wrecked but the powertrain is still intact. That the only way I'd do it.|||all depends on how new of an engine you want to install. your best bet and probably your cheapest would be to install a V6 engine that came with that model and year, you'll also have to replace the ECM (engine control module), the mounting brackets ,some of the exhaust and probably some of the wiring.

Good Luck|||It really cheaper to buy a new truck...plus the first thing the 22r eng in that truck runs forever....so you will need a engine, trans, transfercase, 2 driveshafts, drive shaft yokes, motor mounts, trans mounts, shift linkage, more than likely modify center console, crossmember, wireing harness, 2 boxes of goody's powers, 2 handles crown royal, time, welder, and the engine computer....i think this wraps up what you need.....speedometer and cable with gear...there different b/t 4 and 6 cyl.....ok now i think this wraps it up.. have fun
