How come Toyota is one of the most profitable auto makers.Yet they have less factories in US than rivals?

I have heard that Toyota is one of the most profitable auto makers and they have less factories in the US than Honda or Nissan and that most of their cars are imported ie the percentage of US made content in their cars are less.

Then how come can they maintain their profitability.|||Mad Jack should get his facts right,Toyota workers make the same wages as GM,Ford and Chrysler workers. There are at least 2 Toyota plants that are UAW(Tacoma,Corolla) and in Japan they do have labor unions.Half of all Toyota's sold in the US are imported, because Japan and Toyota work together to keep the yen artificially undervalued they make about $4000 average on every vehicle brought into the US.Because of this they have recently said they will not be building any more assembly plants in the US,they make more money importing the vehicles.Consumer Reports said today that Toyota's reliability and quality are falling with the Tundra motor and 4 wheel drive system problems along with the Camry transmission problems and now Ford has higher quality.|||the reason for this is their building one of the best and most dependable vehicles there is on the market right now,and that's what people want, they don't want to buy vehicles that will tear up all the time, until the American car makers can build a vehicle as good,Toyota will probably stay no-1,I'm telling you the American car makers are going to have to catch up to them,or they ,ll loose more sales to foreign makes, good luck.|||What American made? The majority of the so called American made cars Are built in Mexico and other parts of third world countries.|||in Japan they have ZERO health care cost. the govt. pays. The US car makers add about $1500 to $2000 to the price of a vehicle to cover their health care cost.|||Fact: My '07 Toyota Tacoma was BUILT in the GM PLANT in BAJA, CA. Most people don't know that Toyota and GM are in cahoots. My truck is made from 70% American(north) parts. Only the engine and tranny are shipped over. Ever notice the similarities between the Tacoma and Chevy Colorado? How about Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe? Talk to someone who knows. This is not an advertised fact but IT IS TRUE!!|||its true that gm has many ties to many foreigh car companies (affiliations with toyota, stock ownership in nissan, full owner of saab, etc.) and on many occasions these factors arent taken into account when figuring in the success of the business. in reality GM is still the most successful car company in the world.

and as far as honda and nissan having more plants than toyota. i cant confirm my statement but i do not believe that. even if they had a greater NUMBER of plants do they actually produce more cars?

the reason for toyotas success is they make products to fit the highest demands... affordable, reliable, fuel efficient, economical vehicles, and trucks.

GM is making a lot of different vehicles that toyota isnt... sports cars, luxery cars, greater variety of trucks, suvs, etc. and their still making the fuel efficient reliable cars as well.

this is truly a better business practice. although it may not equal the most proffit at this moment it does equal a better business in the long run.

fuel efficient practical sedans became poppular in recent years because of the rising cost of fuel and the declining economy, and trucks have always been popular (even despite fuel costs) because of their practacality. but this cant last forever, and GM knows this.

now of course toyota will adapt, its not some fly by night car company. but they dont spread their business out quite like GM does.

if you ask me their both exceptional car companies and they both deserve to be contending for the #1 car company in the world. i would feel secure buying a product from either.|||Marketing.

They have people convinced that they are better cars than they really are and that the domestic makes are junk. But consider this. Are the Americans building these Toyota's any smarter than the Americans building the domestic makes? Are the Americans building these Toyota's any more skilled than the Americans building the domestic makes? The only real difference is that these American made Toyota's are built by non-union workers making less money and have fewer benefits than their domestic brand counterparts. These non-union workers also have less job security as they have nobody to protect them from abuses from their employers. So you can't convince me that the American Toyota workers are happier workers.

The domestic makes are built just as well as the American made Japanese makes. Marketing is the only difference.

Hear the big sucking sound. It is all of our money leaving the country. Wake Up America!|||Good question. And all that money they make goes right over to Japan. Wish people would realize that and buy American made cars and keep the money here
